5 Reasons You Should Love Shoulder Season Crops

Maryland’s Eastern Shore has been nationally recognized for the wide variety of vegetables and fruits that it produces all throughout the year. At Baywater Farms, we extend our harvest season into the spring and fall months by taking advantage of some of the most appetizing shoulder season crops available. Shoulder season crops offer some of the most delicious, organically-grown fruits and vegetables in the sustainable farming industry.

From rainbow carrots to field lettuces, there is a shoulder crop to satisfy anyone’s cravings for crisp, light, and fresh Maryland produce.

Rainbow Carrots

Rethink carrots with beautifully-colored rainbow carrots. Regular carrots are great, but step up your produce aisle’s color game by opting for rainbow carrots that come in several shades of white, purple, yellow, red, and, of course, orange. These non-GMO rainbow carrots will look great in any salad or roasted as a side.

Field Lettuces

While our hydroponically-grown lettuces are available all year long, we also offer lettuces grown from the soil of our Maryland family farm. These lettuces are the perfect base for any salad or addition to any wrap or sandwich. With flavors ranging from mild and buttery to bright and fresh, every customer will be left satisfied with organically-grown lettuces.

Radish Mixes

Radishes are another bright and colorful addition to any produce aisle. Our wide variety of radishes offer a bright burst of peppery flavor to any dish or even by themselves. Icicle, watermelon, and purple ninja create the perfect combination for our most popular radish mix.

Fall Squash

Fall squash is suddenly more popular than ever before. With spaghetti squash close to the top of the list, its rise in popularity doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Spaghetti, butternut, and acorn are all squash varieties that we harvest during shoulder crop season.

Sweet Potatoes

Potatoes aren’t only served at Thanksgiving. Sweet potatoes are another shoulder crop that has become even more in-demand in recent years. From sweet potato fries to a bowl with a sweet potato base, it’s no wonder why this superfood has become such a crowd-pleaser.
